rom the battle grounds to his latest moniker Dumbfoundead in less than a decade has built a legendary history in the LA hip-hop scene. At the mere age of three, Park’s mother smuggled both him and his sister past the Mexican border and nestled the family deeply into his Koreatown stomping ground. While he grew up listening to all genres of music, the hip-hop scene in the nineties was no doubt bustling – and through that Dumbfoundead found his initial hip-hop clique that clicked and clacked from a Macarthur Park community center to Project Blowed, an open-mic workshop in south central LA.

One of the most eclectic and prolific artists in rock music, Steven Wilson has been writing, recording, and producing music continuously since the age of 10. A native of Hemel Hempstead in England, Wilson was first exposed to music at the age of eight, when he started hearing his father listening to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon," and his mother to Donna Summer's "Love to Love You Baby," two albums that were pivotal in the development of his musical direction. His father, an electrical engineer, built him a multi-track tape machine, and he began to experiment with overdubbing and developing a repertoire of production techniques.

Every generation has a band that puts a fresh twist on piano-rock, and Jukebox the Ghost’s latest studio offering serves as a memorably vivid and kaleidoscopic step forward for the genre.

An air of sultry modernity infuses the future-forward Brazilian Girls, who vibrate with invigorating, globe-trotting electricity. Founded in 2003, the NYC-based quartet swing hard with groove music and a truly open mind, a dance floor filler that draws from a saucy array of inspirations far from club land. Compelling rhythms drive their sound but there are always long, curious fingers reaching out to snare interesting accents, beguiling complications, and fresh sounds from the natural and man-made worlds to drive their adventurous yet immediately appealing sound.

The music is a patchwork amalgam of influences, including: twangy Southern rock (they've opened for the Drive-By Truckers), reverb-soaked psychedelia reminiscent of early My Morning Jacket or fellow Athens residents Phosphorescent, soaring guitar solos à la Neil Young and Crazy Horse, rhythmic jangle from that other Athens band, REM, multi-part vocal harmonies (which every band ought to have, dammit), and, weaving through it all, lyrical slide guitar.

The clown Mauro has passed, but his spirit is still with us. Instead of mourning, the funeral cortege celebrates the here and hereafter with laughter and exuberance. Rich, extravagant memories frolic with the senses. The sound of laughter peals around the stage, visions of joyous tumblers and players fascinate the eyes. Regret and melancholy retreat in the face of a cavalcade of lively recollections of a life gloriously lived. A festive parade that entertains; the perfect accolade for an artist whose life was dedicated to revelry and making merry.

Horse Feathers feels like a secret you don’t really want to share. Over twelve years and five albums, a passionate fan base has experienced this band as a precious commodity that they want to keep close to their hearts. One reason for this can be found in lead singer Justin Ringle’s distinctive voice, at once vulnerable and piercing, and in the quality of the music: gorgeous, lush string arrangements surrounding stark, visceral lyrics whose bite makes a piquant juxtaposition to the surrounding beauty.
