Join the band of swashbuckling buccaneers, bumbling British bobbies, frolicsome Victorian maidens, and the delightfully dotty “model of a modern Major-General” for a rollicking romp over the rocky coast of Cornwall. This exuberant musical theater masterpiece, directed and conducted by Albert Bergeret, is performed in its original format by the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players with your Colorado Symphony! The rich sounds of orchestra, Colorado Symphony Chorus, and vocal soloists resonate with classic elegance and power while the company’s vibrancy, energy, and contemporary sense of humor keep the show alive and exciting to a modern audience. The Pirates of Penzance - they’ll steal your heart away!

"This album is led by emotion. So making melodies that capture you was my priority. I was just asking one question, does it move you?" Soulful and raw, Londoner Michael Kiwanuka's critically-acclaimed debut album 'Home Again' (April 2012) staked his claim on the list of great British singer-songwriters. As a body of work, Home Again was a genre-defying nod to the heritage names of soul, and reinforced the real strength of young British music talent.

Well, that’s the way it is sometimes: musicians play music, and don’t necessarily worry about where it gets filed. It’s the writers, record labels, managers, etc., who tend to fret about what “kind” of music it is. And like The Band, the members of Railroad Earth aren’t losing sleep about what “kind” of music they play – they just play it. When they started out in 2001, they were a bunch of guys interested in playing acoustic instruments together. As Railroad Earth violin/vocalist Tim Carbone recalls, “All of us had been playing in various projects for years, and many of us had played together in different projects. But this time, we found ourselves all available at the same time.”

Anyone who has ever heard Fish’s previous albums knows that she has earned a place in the top rank of contemporary blues guitarists and that her voice can wring the soul out of a ballad and belt out a rocker with roof-shaking force. And, rest reassured, those virtues are fully in evidence on Kill or Be Kind. But each of the songs on the album does far more than simply provide a setting for Fish’s pyrotechnics. They tell captivating stories, set up by verses that deftly set the scene, choruses that lift with real feeling, and hooks that later rise up in your thoughts, even when you’re not aware that you’re thinking of music at all. It’s the kind of songwriting that emerges when raw talent is leavened by experience and aspiration, and when a committed artist genuinely has something to say. Those qualities make Kill or Be Kind a genuine artistic breakthrough for Fish.

After leading lauded performances of our All-Beethoven program in 2014 and Mozart’s Requiem in 2017, Jun Märkl returns to Boettcher Concert Hall to conduct your Colorado Symphony in a performance featuring works by a duo of French composers and a Polish composer who spent much of his adult life in France. Ingrid Fliter — a pre-eminent enterpreter of Chopin — lends her expertise to his Second Piano Concerto. Debussy’s La Mer is a work of marvelous imagination as he captures the essence and mood of the Mediterranean Sea, a place he visited frequently during his childhood. Ravel’s La Valse caps the program with a glittering homage to the Viennese Waltz, as it is both glorified and deconstructed in a melodic strain of rhythmic fluidity — a fittingly romantic end to a program brimming with European style.

Queensryche have never been a band to rest on their laurels. In a career set against the new-millennium’s backdrop of cultural chaos, they’ve remained a constant; musically innovative and lyrically thought-provoking. One of rock’s most respected names who have weathered the storm and emerged in 2019 with The Verdict. It’s an album that echoes Queensryche’s three decades of career high-points while pushing ahead with the confidence and urgency of a band just now coming into its own.

If you’re playing in Miami, you’ve got to get bodies moving. Over the years, the city has been home to Latin pop royalty and ascendant Soundcloud rappers; played host to bass-booming EDM fests and the golden years of disco legends. It’s also why Miami’s latest genre-defying dynamos, Magic City Hippies, are primed to take their infectious indie-funk around the world.

Just outside the jazz mecca of Kansas City springs liberal oasis Lawrence, Kansas—separated only by the waves of wheat from the epicenter of the electronic music revolution in Colorado. From Lawrence, it would logically follow that an act could rise to prominence fueled by the swing of Basie, the birth of Charlie Parker’s bebop, and the wild frontier of electronica.

The Doo Wop Project begins at the beginning, tracing the evolution of Doo Wop from the classic sound of five guys singing tight harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio today. In their epic shows DWP takes audiences on a journey from foundational tunes of groups like the Crests, Belmonts and Flamingos through their influences on the sounds of Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, and The Four Seasons all the way to DooWopified versions of modern musicians like Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz and Maroon 5. Featuring stars of Broadway’s hits Jersey Boys, Motown: The Musical, Chazz Palminteri's A Bronx Tale, and more the Doo Wop Project brings unparalleled authenticity of sound and vocal excellence to recreate -- and in some cases entirely reimagine -- some of the greatest music in American pop and rock history.

Each seasonal cycle informs, impacts, and inspires growth. American Authors translate those cycles of change into genre-blurring alternative anthems, bordering pop ambition and rock spirit undercut by a rhythmic hip-hop boom. Touting airtight songcraft and sonic adventurousness, the Brooklyn-based four-piece—Zac Barnett [vocals], James Adam Shelley [guitar, banjo], Dave Rublin [bass], and Matt Sanchez [drums]—push forward and progress yet again on their 2018 third full-length, the aptly titled Seasons [Island Records].

A versatile talent who has checked every last box: Unsigned Hype in The Source, Chairman’s Choice in the XXL plus critical acclaim from Pitchfork to Rolling Stone. His latest album Dusty on Mello Music solidifies his status as one of the most talented wordsmiths in the game with a dizzying array of lyrcicism over beats laden with surface noise and grit. His solo catalogue is sterling and over the last two years he’s mastered the group dynamic in tandem with fellow legends Aesop Rock and later, a brilliant psychedelic slab done in union with Edan.

The musicians in this band are young, but they walk on stage with the confidence of a well-seasoned Bluegrass band - and indeed, they are. These five close friends have logged thousands of hours playing together. They have given a TED talk on the history of Bluegrass, they have opened for Del McCoury and Sam Bush and they have even worked as the house band on a cruise ship. In 2017, they won the prestigious Rockygrass band contest and this year they opened the 2018 Rockygrass festival to hundreds of cheering fans.

The Colorado Symphony continues its shared vision of music education with longstanding partner the Denver Young Artists Orchestra (DYAO) under the baton of Colorado Symphony Assistant Conductor, Bertie Baigent. In July of 2018, the DYAO and the Colorado Symphony renewed a commitment to pursuing the shared mission value of music education in a strategic partnership that will allow young musicians from the DYAO greater access and mentorship from the full-time professional musicians of the Colorado Symphony. The greatest shared feature of the DYAO Alliance with the Colorado Symphony will include soloist performance opportunities between both organizations, music coaching, and mentorship fostered by Colorado’s only full-time professional orchestra, masterclass opportunities for DYAO students with Colorado Symphony musicians and featured guest artists, new performance opportunities between ensembles, and a renewed fervor for volunteerism between organizations.

Pop-Up Magazine’s Winter 2020 Issue will feature stories about a soap opera’s significance in post-Soviet Russia, flying saucers and family obsessions, the criminalization of humanitarian aid at the border, learning to say what we mean — and even some cabaret. We end the night gathered around the bar, performers and audience together. And nothing goes online after—you have to be there to see it.

Since forming 10 years ago, the buzz surrounding Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real has been quietly intensifying. During that time, the 28-year old singer/songwriter/guitarist and his bandmates have played hundreds of shows and major festivals all over the world and built a devoted underground following. Lukas’ profile continued to rise when he contributed three songs and heavenly vocals to his dad Willie Nelson’s 2012 album, Heroes, their voices blending with potent DNA. Then two years later, life took another turn skyward when Neil Young decided to make Promise of the Real his touring and studio band. Young has guided the grateful young musicians ever since as they’ve backed the legend on tour around the world and on his two most recent albums.

Lukas Nelson knows all about legacies, indeed he's been hard at work carving his own for most of his young but extremely eventful life. Balancing his work as the front man of Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real — an emergent and vital force in American music — with his regular gig as Neil Young's band leader and lead guitarist — and of course, the never-ending road alongside his father in Willie Nelson & Family — in song after song, on stage after stage, Lukas has sharpened the edges of his singular sound, one that nods to his influences while also pushing forward into uncharted territory.

New York-bred TAUK has been laying down an all-instrumental blend of progressive rock, hip-hop and jazz on stages across the U.S. for the last several years, and recently released several iterations of “Real TAUK”, to document some of the great moments from each tour. Though fans have clamored for each “Real TAUK” release (now up to Volume 3) they’ve also reveled in the deep sonic explorations from the band’s studio forays. Their most recent studio album Shapeshifter II: Outbreak, offered an unsettling but ultimately exhilarating look at artificial intelligence and its potential to upend our world. With its dynamic sense of tension and cinematic mastery of mood, it proved to be an album that’s both powerfully hypnotic and intensely thought-provoking.

Join your Colorado Symphony for the launch of a yearlong 2020 celebration of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday with one of the cardinal achievements of his venerated career. Featuring the Colorado Symphony Chorus and four vocal soloists, the monumental Missa Solemnis is a masterpiece of spiritual expression and musical innovation. Composed around the time of his Ninth Symphony, the two works shed light on Beethoven’s religious world view — where the Ninth’s ‘Ode to Joy’ is a hymn to man and brotherhood, the Missa Solemnis is a hymn to God. Through it all, Beethoven expresses universal spiritual ideas in a manner that could not have been accomplished by words alone, concluding with a fraught yet unanswered plea for peace amid the drumbeats of war. You won’t want to miss this once-in-a-generation performance as conducted by Music Director Brett Mitchell.

Shot before the turn of the century, the photographs resonate with the music of four families from the Mississippi hills. The album captures the communal spirit upon which the band was founded.

Middleton steers the band’s studio efforts, having produced, co-written, and mixed their debut album, TYPECAST. And Smith anchors the project’s live show with an indefatigable charisma that compliments Middleton’s thoughtful production. The young Marietta, Georgia native incorporated his lifelong influences of southern rock, blues and gospel into his country stylings during a honky-tonk apprenticeship that led him to the Warner Bros. label in 1989. Over the course of a decade, Tritt released seven studio albums and a greatest hits package for the label. His 1990 debut Country Club and its succession of hits put him in the vanguard of the genre's early '90s boom, dubbing him as one of “The Class of ‘89,” which included country music superstars Garth Brooks, Clint Black and Alan Jackson; all of whom dominated the charts in the early ‘90s.

From the days of playing greasy local juke joints to headlining major festivals, JJ Grey remains an unfettered, blissful performer, singing with a blue-collared spirit over the bone-deep grooves of his compositions. His presence before an audience is something startling and immediate, at times a funk rave-up, other times a sort of mass-absolution for the mortal weaknesses that make him and his audience human. When you see JJ Grey and his band Mofro live—and you truly, absolutely must—the man is fearless.
