When the Randy Rogers Band's last project debuted as the most-downloaded country album on iTunes, plenty of the industry "insiders" on Music Row were left scratching their heads: Who are these guys? The Nashville elite may not have known about the five-piece band, but much of America already did. Rolling Stone magazine ranked them alongside such artists as U2 and the Stones in its list of Top 10 Must-See Artists in the summer of 2007.

"Ofnir" was a very masculine album. To create it, HEILUNG took a big part of the lyrics from preserved rune inscriptions on weapons and armour. "Futha" is the counterpart, the balance point, the feminine side. Here, the lyrics originate from old Icelandic poetry, in which the holy women chant magic spells and offer their blessings. Hence, female voices are more prominent on "Futha".

Known for its stirring harmonies, rousing rhythms, and concerts that leave audiences feeling energized, the Denver-Boulder-based chorus Planina presents a rare concert of music to soothe the soul and bring rest to the weary. On the afternoon of Saturday, January 18, treat yourself to quiet time drenched in the lush vocal harmonies of Eastern Europe. Give your body and mind a rest while Planina cradles you in music—no bright costumes, no announcements, no applause, just a smooth flow of the more reflective songs that we normally wouldn’t put together in one concert. The songs range from Bulgarian and Croatian choral arrangements of folk melodies to Russian spiritual songs to Georgian love songs. Sit in traditional seating or bring pillows and mats to relax on the floor and engage in some deep listening and deep relaxing.

On Wednesday, Jan. 22, the Village Exchange Center (VEC), a local organization dedicated to creating a safe space of belonging while celebrating religious and cultural diversity, will host an international bazaar-themed benefit in celebration of the nonprofit’s third anniversary. The vibrant event will take place in The Hangar at Stanley Marketplace (2501 N. Dallas Street, Aurora) from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., celebrating the many nationalities, faiths and cultures that make up the Greater Denver community. Guests will enjoy an array of global dishes from eateries owned and operated by immigrants and refugees who call Colorado home, including Jasmine Syrian Food, Taste of Sudan, Nepali Mountain Kitchen and more. Attendees will also have a unique opportunity to shop for international treasures crafted by world artisans at an on-site bazaar. Vendors will include A Little Something, a local cooperative which helps refugee women achieve self-sufficiency through the beauty of handmade crafts, and merchants that are part of R Bazaar, a Denver-based non-profit organization that honors the journey of refugee and immigrant artisans through pop-up markets. Adding musical whimsy to the celebratory evening, acoustic rocker Rob Drabkin will deliver a special performance. A Denver native, Drabkin has performed at iconic venues across the globe, including the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre. His music is spirited in nature and light from the heart. Other special guests include Congressman Jason Crow and Reverend Dr. Timothy E. Tyler., who will present VEC’s Martin Luther King Mountaintop Award. In addition to showing support through attendance, guests will be invited to participate in live and silent auctions. Early bird tickets are on sale through Jan. 15 for $81 each and will then increase to $100. Proceeds from the event will help VEC carry out programs that serve and empower refugee, immigrant and local communities in the Denver/Aurora metro area such as English Language Acquisition (ELA), financial literacy classes, after-school programs, food pantry, health and wellness programs, and more. Funds will also help VEC continue its mission to offer a safe space to the community to celebrate religious and cultural diversity.

On their sixth album LA Divine, Cold War Kids pay tribute to Los Angeles and all its strange glory. The follow-up to 2014's Hold My Home -- featuring the gold-certified single "First" -- the band's latest is slightly tongue-in-cheek in its title. "In many ways LA is the least divine city, the most hedonistic and irreverent and disconnected from history," says Cold War Kids singer/guitarist/pianist Nathan Willett. Still, LA Divine embodies the Long Beach-bred band's endless fascination with their adopted hometown. "LA's so massive, I feel like I'm always finding something new in it," says bassist Matt Maust. "It's an incredibly weird place, and I'm happy to have made a record that totally honors that weirdness."

Dame Fortune is the deliciously eclectic sixth album from veteran producer and crate digger extraordinaire RJD2, out March 25th on RJ's Electrical Connections. It's a wondrous beast, recorded over the past year while living in Philadelphia, before returning to his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Streaked with Philly's rep for deeply felt soul music while maintaining a playful sense of adventurousness, Dame Fortune features guest vocalists Son Little (aka Aaron Livingston) and frequent collaborator Phonte, while also presenting the bombastic hip-hop sound that marked RJD2's breakthrough album, Deadringer, and even an orchestral composition for the societal unrest experienced in this day and age (called "PF Day One."..the PF standing for "Post Ferguson").

Rachmaninoff’s brilliant and challenging Third Piano Concerto is respected, even feared, by many pianists due to its technical and musical demands. In his Colorado Symphony debut, gifted pianist Lukáš Vondrácek will reprise his role as featured soloist on the piece he performed to critical acclaim en route to winning the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition in 2016. The first half features two ballets by a pair of quintessential twentieth century American composers beginning with Aaron Copland’s Suite from Billy the Kid, mixing cowboy tunes and American folk songs to create a uniquely ‘American sound.’ Music Director Brett Mitchell and your Colorado Symphony will unite thereafter with dancers on Leonard Bernstein’s sterling Facsimile, bringing a taste of the theater to Boettcher Concert Hall.

The year before making their breakthrough with a mainstage performance at Coachella and the chart topping single “My Type,” Saint Motel had planned to host an event of their own called “saintmotelevision”—a multimedia spectacular of music, dance, comedy, art, and more that was shut down by authorities before it even took place. “That crazy mixture of worlds and ideas is something we’ve always gravitated toward,” says front man A/J Jackson in reflecting on the original saintmotelevision. “We’ve always been fans of strange combinations, and that glorious yet doomed event became a symbol of all that.” So when it came time to create their forthcoming full-length debut for Elektra, the band reclaimed the name saintmotelevision and, in the end, dreamed up an album as magnificently kaleidoscopic as that mythic party itself.
